Autumn Walks Reboot

Hi everyone! I hope everyone has been enjoying the holidays! We had a pretty low-key Christmas here, with my mom and step-dad out for a visit.  Santa came and went, and so did the flu-bug, I’m afraid.  But alas, we are all well again and ready to ring in 2019!

I’m just popping in real quick to share a little modification for the Autumn Walks Triangle Scarf that I did a while back.  If you follow me on Instagram, then last week you saw that I teamed up with the lovely Krista of Rescued Paw Designs to give away PDF printable copies of both my Autumn Walks Triangle Scarf and her new Pom Pom Hat.

What prompted this pairing was that I had recently worked my Autumn Walks Triangle Scarf with Vanna’s Choice yarn by Lion Brand Yarn, and then I had been scrolling through my Instagram feed when I saw her new Pom Pom Hat and thought, dang! That looks like it was made to match my scarf! She even used Vanna’s Choice yarn!  The puffs! The yarn! I knew they were meant to be made together, and fortunately for one lucky winner, so did Krista!

The Autumn Walks Triangle Scarf can be found for free here on the blog, or as an inexpensive printable PDF pattern on Etsy and Ravelry.  Similarly, the Pom Pom Hat by Krista of Rescued Paw Designs can be found for free on her blog, or a printable PDF version on her Yarn Mama’s website.

The Autumn Walks Triangle Scarf was written for Mandala yarn, considerably thinner than Vanna’s Choice, so I thought I would share what I did for anyone who is interested.

I opted to size up my hook from the recommended hook size for the yarn to a L / 8mm hook to allow for a looser, flowy-er fabric.   I used roughly 500 yards or 4 skeins of Vanna’s Choice in Mustard, with some leftover.  I followed the pattern as written for most of it, but I found that if I completed it as written, it would be HUGE.  I wanted to keep it roughly the same size as the original, so that meant cutting out some of the last pattern repeat.

To sum up, here is a quick glance at the modifications.

  • L / 8mm Hook
  • Follow pattern as written to the completion of Row 27 (the end of the second pattern repeat)
  • Row 28: Repeat pattern Row 8 (168 double crochets)
  • Row 29 / Picot Border: Complete pattern Row 38

Later, I replicated this same modification set using Caron One Pound, also a medium 4 weight worsted weight yarn.  I was happy to note that the modifications translated well across brands, and I love the solid variations of these yarns and how well they showcase the stitches. And those puffy tassels!!!

I hope you enjoy this chunkier version.  It works up super quick, even quicker than the original!  Be sure to share your finished scarf wherever you post with #autumnwalksscarf.

See you next year!
