Hello everyone! Because Mondays can be kind of bleh, I just wanted to pop in and share a little bit of fun and a quick freebie with you!
I might be dating myself here, but back in college, in the days of AOL instant messenger and away messages and flash cartoons, there was a funny little gem of a cartoon that my then boyfriend (now husband) had as his away message. The cartoon was a simple yet hilarious animated banana man dancing to a catchy little tune that declared to the world it was peanut butter jelly time. Later, it even got a nod from a Family Guy episode, so clearly, this is where it was at!
This cartoon was still making the rounds years later when a neighbor’s nine-year old son shared this “cool” cartoon with my husband and I. Of course, when we saw that dancing banana, we had to inform our neighbor kid that “Psh! That’s an old school classic right there!”
If you haven’t seen it yourself, you’re missing out, and I’m here to help you! You can watch the OG PBJ Time video on YouTube. I know, I know, it may seem kind of lame by today’s standards, but I assure you this was legit back in the day. Even now, every time I make my kids a PBJ, I’m singing this song out loud or in my head, and now even my boys know it. That’s right, it is influencing future generations!
I thought it would make a cute shirt, so I made a cut file, and cut it out on my Cricut Explore Air 2. Don’t look too closely at my vinyl application…I was in a hurry LOL.
***Update 3/22/22: If you want to learn more about Cricut, I encourage you to go check out their website! Cricut has a whole host of machines (like the Cricut Maker 3 pictured below) to match your budget and the types of projects you might want to do. They also have a ton of great tools, like their Cricut EasyPress line that takes the guesswork out of heat presses, lighting, and more. Their design software has all kinds of capabilities and you can also sign up for their subscription service, Cricut Access, for all kinds of fonts, graphics, and projects!
Because I thought some of you might be interested in making your kids a PBJ Time shirt (or who are we kidding, you know you want one for yourself), I decided that I would share the cut file with you, my faithful readers, FOR FREE!
The SVG file is a 6 layer cut file, so you can customize the text and shoe colors, and it will work with any electronic die cut machine. Download the compressed file with both a SVG and PNG formats here: KC PBJ Time. If you enjoyed this cut file, go check out other cut files are available in my Etsy shop!
