The Kiss Stitch in Rows Tutorial
Hi there, friends!
You may remember a while back, I shared my XOXO Throw, which uses the Kiss Stitch worked in rows. Now that I have added a YouTube channel to my repertoire, I wanted to give this stitch it’s very own post and tutorial.
This stitch happened by accident, but I wasn’t mad about it. When you finish a blanket only to realize you worked the stitch wrong the whole time, but it is such a wonderful texture, you go with it!
So let’s learn the Kiss Stitch, shall we?
The Kiss Stitch
The Kiss Stitch is a type of crossed doubles worked over a row or round of single crochet. It is comprised of 3 individual stitches worked in succession to achieve a single Kiss Stitch. This creates a lovely textured pattern that resembles Xs and Os, hence its name.
To work this in rows or flat, we must use a multiple of 3 + 2 single crochet stitches. You will start each Kiss Stitch (KS) row with a chain-3, which will count as the first double crochet of your KS row, and end the row with a double crochet in the last stitch.
- Start with a row of foundation single crochet in a multiple of 3+2, or alternately, chain out a multiple of 3+2+1, then single crochet into the 2nd chain from your hook and into each chain across.
- Begin the Kiss Stitch row with a chain 3, which counts as a double crochet for this and every Kiss Stitch row.
- Skip 2 stitches (not counting the stitch at the base of your ch-3), dc into next.
- Chain 1.
- Double crochet into the first skipped stitch, working in front of the double crochet you just made to make an X. This is your first Kiss Stitch!
- Repeat Steps 3 – 5 and continue making kiss stitches across the row, until you have one stitch left un-worked. Double crochet into the last stitch.
See following step by step photos. If you would like to see a video of this stitch performed, I have recorded a video tutorial for you below the photo tutorial!
I’ve created a full step-by-step photo tutorial for you, but in case you need to see it done in action, I uploaded a video to my YouTube channel as well.
That’s really all there is to it!
Congratulations! Now you’re ready to make all the scarves and blankets you could want. Try to resist that texture, I dare you! It’s delicious, isn’t it?
Happy yarning!
