2022 Spring Break Staycation Part One

It’s official, we’ve opened camping season for the year and took Alice out for a couple of days during our Spring Break Staycation 2022.

I’m not going to go in depth about the facilities at Hawn. If you want my take on that, be sure to check out this post from our first time visiting this beautiful park last year.

Hawn State Park is a 4,956 acre state park in Sainte Genevieve, MO where visitors can camp, hike, and picnic alongside Pickle Creek.

This year, we did a couple of things differently: we went with friends, and we ventured the rugged 6-mile North Loop of the Whispering Pine Trail, complete with THREE creek crossings. I will admit that it was a bit chillier than we were expecting this time of year, and the wind was gusty, but it was still fun. Our first night, we set up in off/on rain drizzling, but nothing too bad that we couldn’t start a fire. But that second day was absolutely perfection. Sunny and mid-50s (F), it was perfect weather for a hike. I’m not going to lie, this hike was a lot more than I probably should have done considering the chronic pain I still have as a result of my Lupron/Zoladex and Exemestane tablets, but on the bright side, if I could make this hike, then that means it looks pretty good for just about everyone else LOL. Even the kids and dog made it through just fine. And the sights along the way were well worth it.

Here are a few of my favorite pictures from our trip!

  • A close up of a red trail blaze arrow has the word "LOVE" written vertically down the inside of the arrow.

I also got some video of our trip this time, which didn’t happen last time. In this video, you can see (and hear) the waterfalls and rushing Pickle Creek, watch the pine trees sway in the wind, see all kinds of flora, and get a feel for the terrain. Bonus, you can see my buddy piggyback us all across the last creek crossing where there were no rocks to use. I mean, he was the only one with rubber boots, and yes, he could have taken them off and thrown them across to us, but this was more fun and humorous, especially when he piggybacked HBW Hubby over last. I was laughing so hard at the ridiculousness of it all that my cheeks hurt! So if you want a little giggle, check it out.

Until next time, happy camping!

xx
