A Day in Door County

Hi again!

A couple days ago, I posted about our Wisconsin Vacation, mentioning that we spent a day in the famous Door County. Friends, I could have spent a week there exploring, shopping, eating and taking pictures. This is one place I definitely plan to return to, but next time, without children. While they had fun, this is definitely more ideal for an adult trip, especially a girls trip. Still, they boys had a good time, even if they rolled their eyes at how many lighthouses I wanted to see.

While it didn’t work out for us to spend more than a single day in DoCo, as it is called locally, we made the most of the time we had. Here’s how we spent it!

Kayaking

After kayaking a bit when we were in Glacier National Park several years ago, I thought the boys would enjoy a kayaking tour on Lake Michigan and into one of the caves that dot the cliffs. We signed up for a tour from DoCo Kayak Tours and paired off with the kids to start our trek across the lake. It was pretty choppy, and the wind made for a hard trek back to the dock, but it was such a cool experience!

Wild Tomato

After hours on the lake, we were starving, so we went for some pizza at Wild Tomato in Fish Creek. It was SO. GOOD. I of course had to order fried cheese curds for HBW Hubby and the kids to try, but I think I liked them more than anyone else. I’m pretty sure I could make an entire meal out of them, but I’m glad I didn’t because otherwise I’d have missed out on the amazing pies! Also, I couldn’t resist taking a picture of the bathroom doors because they totally made me chuckle when I saw them.

Anderson Dock + Lighthouses

After lunch and on our way back to my friend’s house, we decided to hit up Anderson Dock and a few lighthouses. With 5 tired kids, there was only so much we could reasonably make happen, but what we were able to see was pretty awesome. First up, Anderson Dock, an historic site known for the graffiti that covers its walls. Someone left a sharpie, so we all left our mark on it as well. Be sure to only write on the building and nothing else!

Next up were the Sturgeon Bay and Algoma lights, a pretty red contrast to the surrounding blue sky and water.

With underwater ship wrecks, hiking, lavender fields, and so many more lighthouses left to see and wine and food to try, my besties and I are already trying to plan a return trip to beautiful Door County. What would you see/do first?
